Time to prepare the S800 -

$

Last year the S800 felt like something fun...then I tried to fly it and set it aside.  I feel like this summer will be a fun to time to get it in the air Smile

Just flashed INAV 2.3.0 to the Matex F411-Wing (MATEK411 target).  It is not installed in the wing, after I shifted back to the original flight board.  The camera and VTX are already installed.  Need to find one of my old XM Plus RX's too.  It is actually flyable right now, just needs an RX.  Do not really need telemetry for the moment, just getting it airborne will be awesome!

Given this is a world wide forum, I'm curious if we have any F1 fans here?

I've been a F1 fan almost before I could walk.

If you are a F1 fan, sound off with your country, your favorite team, and favorite driver.

I'll start....

I'm from the USA.

My favorite team is McLaren even though they aren't doing very well currently.

My all time favorite driver is Ayrton Senna.

My current favorite driver is Lewis Hamilton.  I was a Lewis fan from his first season.

I also like Verstappen and Leclerc.

Long Range Telemetry for iOS

$

Folks,

I've been researching some long range telemetry options - primarily to get a live GPS position on a map, but ideally full ground control station integration in apps like Mission Planner, QGround Control, etc. My challenge is that I want something that works on iOS.. and options are severely limited there since most downlinks communicate over USB or OTG cables, neither of which iOS support to my knowledge.

But I think I stumbled across something very interesting I wanted to share and get feedback on in case others have used a similar system:

-X-Rock 3DR: telemetry radio set with bluetooth bridge built in to the ground unit
     -433mhz / 500mw version on eBay for $47
     -433mhz / 100mw version on eBay for $34
     -915mhz / 1000mw version on Banggood for $52
     -User manual

-Alta QGC (QGround Control) on iOS App Store (free!). I think this is a fork of the QGround Control project, which says that iOS builds were currently unavailable, but this app seems to work, it just might be outdated. There is also a MacOS version, but I couldn't get it working on Catalina. All other iOS based ground station apps seemed to be long dead.

So the idea is I'll put the 3DR air unit on my quad, connect it to 5V and a spare UART and set that UART to output telemetry in BF/iNAV/APM, then pair to the ground unit (which has a built-in battery!) on my iPhone and run the app. It's that simple! I haven't been able to test it yet, but I have a 3DR set coming on Saturday, so I'll keep you all updated. I'm not sure what protocol this all uses and whether it's compatible with QGround Control, so we'll see!

Looking forward to feedback!

MAVIC MINI

DJI Mavic Mini keeps losing satellites indoor it wasn't doing this before when i first got it and i don't fly it that much so i step outdoor to see if the problem persist and it did, the light on the back would turn green i would assume it's saying it has the OK to fly then the light on the back would turn red and the satellites on the screen decrease and turn red and the video signal is slow it's  breaking up not like the analog fpv drones and it's connected to a brand new 10 inch tablet i purchased.

GPS signal low. Aircraft unable to hover and takeoff restricted. Move to environment with adequate light. Unlocking takeoff restrictions is not recommended, OK.. i move outside the same thing happened so how the hell i'm suppose to takeoff?

Tenlog Hands 2 3D printer

Hey guys, back at it with another review!!

This time I opted for the Tenlog Hands 2 which you can purchase from here if you're interested: LINK HERE

Following on from my posting style for the Artillery Genius, I'm going to keep this format the same, but I'll try to make it a little more structured so you can compare my thoughts easier, so I will be basically asking myself questions and these will be the same for each printer. So here goes:

Current Status:
The printer arrived today and my wife has sent me a picture of it in the box, I will put that picture at the end of this post for you all to see. I will open it up and begin assembly tonight, reporting back here tomorrow with the next stage of my review.

Why did you choose to review this printer?
I have free choice to review any printer on the market, and I'd love to eventually get through all the printers out there. The reason I chose this printer is because I'm looking for specific features that i currently believe are important and at a certain price point. This printer features direct drive extruders, and it is a dual printhead machine meaning it can do multi colour, multi material, or duplicate prints. I'm yet to try a dual printhead machine, and there did seem to be a few options available but this is the cheapest one I could find that had dual direct drive extruders. I did seem to not be able to find much info on the actual extruders, but we shall find out tonight!

This is most of the content i can provide for now, but i would like your help on what questions should be the standard thing for me to answer with each printer. I have drafted a small list below of things I would like to include in reviews and I'd appreciate and suggestions on things you might want to see added or removed from the list:
  • Initial packaging thoughts/ unboxing
  • Assembly overview
  • What were the first print results (included test print)?
  • How can I setup this printer in cura?
  • Are there any quirks about this printer?
  • Are the special features of this printer useful?
  • What are some good points about this printer?
  • What are some bad points about this printer?
  • Final thoughts - Who should purchase this printer?
And as promised, here's a picture of the box.... apparently quite heavy?

Cheers,
Dave

This is an incredibly well put together video and is exactly the sort of thing the FAA need to see more of to give them a wake-up call about how their Remote ID proposal will destroy the hopes and dreams of so many youngsters like this.

Please spread and share the link on social media and other websites where it hasn't already been posted.

I need the ESC to this FC. I have a few questions about it.

First, is there a BLheli 32 version of ESC for this FC?

Second is there a 6s version?

Third, I need the little wire that connects from the ESC to the FC but from what I've seen you can only get that wire by buying the FC itself.

Fourht.... where do you buy things if ot from Amazon Dx Apparently Diatone doesn't have a partnership with amazon which would usually be a complete deal breaker for me, but since I already have the FC... what can I do right?

just trying to reach out a bit. my first build went kinda bad. this happens when your clueless about software and programming. have 250 quad naze32 , pdb, 25 amp castle esc, br2306s 2400kv racestar motors...leds etc.
was finally flashing board. only getting half and it would stop. then sparked something tying to short bootloader pins...cleanflight stopped  seeing board. have many hours on-line trying to learn. littled bugged right now...think i'll just go fly a foamboard (no real landings yet-lol)

Cut Lipo + Wire

I got into a minor crash, and noticed the silicone seething on my main + Power cable was cut.  The wire is intact, just the sheething is damaged. No other part of the battery is damaged.

I was planning on repairing it by de-soldering the wire from the XT60 connector, adding some heat shrink, then re-soldering it to the connector.  Do you guys think the battery would still safe to use?  I hate to toss it since it has less then 10 cycles on it, and it is a 6S 1300mah lipo, and is not cheap!

So i beat the crap out of my old set up and finally broke. Somehow the amazon replica of armattan rooster frame has survived me learning to fly. The positive terminal ripped out of the FC. The old Mach 3 VTX always gave me issues so it had to go. So i decided to upgrade the FC, VTX and ESC's.

FC: Matek f722-se
ESC: Kakute tekko32
VTX: Rush Tank
RX: Frsky: r-xsr
Cap: 220uF on each ESC and 1000uF on FC OVERKILL? Total uF reading accross battery connector measured at 3400uF. Test flight was on 25mw had 0 video noise.

Old stuff
Cam: RDQ Foxeer Predator v4
Frame: Amazon replica of Armattan rooster 5"

Took it for maiden flight yesterday it flew awesome right out the box with no tuning. Does have some prop wash. Only thing done was rates were changed.

Are Solid Body Frames More Prone to Oscillations?

$

Are solid body frames, as opposed to separate arm frames, generally more prone to oscillation?  The thought being that the solid body allows vibrations to pass through to the flight controller more easily than frames with detached arms.  I only ask because I'm having the darndest time trying to tune out these oscillations (namely, Gopro jello on throttles) on my solid body Chameleon while my separate arms Apex is tuned pretty well.  I'm using RPM filtering on both and 1.1-ish on the filter slider.  I had to really ratchet back my tune on the Chameleon to minimize the oscillations.

Has anyone read if there are plans to take the government to court over remote ID?

I'm not a lawyer, but I would think legal action might be possible if the FAA continues down this path.  Obviously there would be costs involved.  And getting money from an apathetic group like us might be challenging.

Might be worth consideration though if the FAA doesn't reverse themselves.

Hobbywing Xrotor F4 G3 + 60A ESC micro stack

Cool Cool

https://www.racedayquads.com/products/ho...a-4in1-esc

So what I have currently in my ultralight 6” build is the 20x20 HGLRC F440.
The problem lies in the ESC, in that it just cant hold up to the amp draw in any kind of adverse conditions (the inevitable crash Whistling or anything that spikes the amps) and I keep burning them up. I have always had excellent experiences with their smaller amp stacks and I love their FCs, but the 40a 4in1 seems to have a lot more issues for others as well. The other issue is the FC has a pin connection (instead of the usual plugs and wire) that connects the ESC and would probably be a pain to connect any other ESC. So I plan to keep the FC as a backup to my 3” build, which loves its HGLRC F4 stack. Tongue

I was looking into other 20x20 FC/ESC stacks but cant seem to find anything with a 50-55A or higher ESC. If you know of a reliable one, please let me know. (I feel a bit out of the loop anymore as I didn’t seem able to get much fly time this past year)
Either way, my frame can handle both 20mm and 30.5mm stacks.

So what are everyones thoughts/opinions/experiences with the Xrotor F4 G3 and 60a ESC?

Feel like doing something with the VRX's that are sitting around my desk -

Was cleaning out my spare stuff drawer and found the box from my True-D VRX.  It contained the original FatShark module, but it also has my Eachine Pro58 w/Achilles!  Thinking about building a based station for longer range wing flying.  Both of the orphaned VRX's function fine, so why not use them?  I have seen some great antenna setups for long range with base stations and it would be cool to be able to fly to the limits of my Attitudes while still having a good feed for returning.

Not really thinking about quads, more my wing or a future plane build out.

Any thoughts on an economy LCD screen, like 13" or so?

Also, thoughts on power source options for field flying.  I have seen pictures of base stations that look like they are powered off car batteries...
