Can't get my motors to ARM

$

Okay so this is my fist post to this forum and I can't figure out what's going on with my FC's software.  So I guess just bare with me while I write a short novel. I'm going to try to get all the info out there at once so you guys can help me faster.

Okay so I'm more or less a total noob to this hobby I have flown quads before but this is my first build. I think I bit off a little more than I could chew here but that's how you learn right? My flight controller is a SPracing f3 deluxe, the motors I'm running are Hobbymate 2204-2300kv they work great I'v tested them and I really like the motors. I'm planning on using 5x4.5x3 Props but I haven't even gotten that far. The ESCs that I'm using are Hobbypower 30 amp. I've done some reseach on them for documentation and according to the internet they are a clone of the Hobbywing 30 amp ESCs. Don't know if that will help but I'm putting it put there anyway. My PDB is a Matek Systems PDB XT60 Idon't think it realy matters but I'm putting it out there anyway. So back to the FC, I flashed it with CleanFlight and got it connected to the receiver using PWM. That all when pretty smoothly, I know they're talking because I can turn it on and see values jump around in the receiver tab of clean flight. when I plug the battery in the ESCs make the normal starting BEEP BEEP BEEP and then repeat a single beep with a 1-2 second pause in between them. I think that means that ESCs aren't getting any signal from the FC, but I'm not sure how to check/fix that if it is the case. I have tried going to the motors tab and playing with the sliders there to see if the motors do anything, but still no response. I tried it with every different ESC protocol option in the configuration tab.

So the biggest question is how do I get he motors to turn on and spin?

Thank you in advance.

100mm 1s brushless Bat

Huge thanks to Sandra and BangGood who have offered to send me this quad in lieu of this Pre-Launch Article.

The Bat 100
available to purchase here soon...

I think this little 100mm micro is pretty exciting for those (like me) wanting to make the step up from brushed motors to find out what brushless power is all about. The video at the bottom shows someone stopping one of the 56mm props by hand so we are not dealing with the high power of racing motors, but the acro flying and speed shown in the clip are not to be sniffed at, especially from a 3.7v (1s) battery!

The Bat ships PNP (Plug and Play) from BangGood and requires the installation of a ppm, SBUS or DSM receiver to fly, otherwise its fully assembled and ready to go. The Teeny1s F3 FC comes pre-flashed with OmnibusF3 running Betaflight 3.1 DShot firmware, and the 4-in-1 6A ESC send DShot 600 signals to the 0705 15000kV motors.

The FPV is provided by a 600TVL camera streaming live PAL/NTSC video through a 48 channel 25mW VTX which should provide a real-time FPV feed for well over 50m without obstructions.

As you see here, the Bat weighs in at a meager 30g dry, and with its 500mAh 30c battery is advertised with a flight time of up to 6 mins.  I hope to be getting a couple of MyLiPo.de 350mah and 600mah batteries which I will try with the bat... Expect a full review as soon as I have this one in the air!

For now check it out -

LIPO Internal Resistance Testing

$

Hey All,

I just got my new isdt charger today.  I decided to do an internal resistance test on all my lipos.  I should mention that I use and abuse all my packs equally and some are older than others.

The 2 power hungry quads that use these batteries are equipped with tmotor f40 pro 2600kv and emax 2306 2400kv.  Needless to say, all these packs sag when I punch the throttle.  I have a guestimation of how many cycles have been put on each pack.  All the packs being tested were charged for about 5 minutes.  A photo is taken after 100 mah is added to the pack.

Here's some info I found on RC Groups about internal resistance:

"Based on my online research, combined with my own experience and findings, I would say, as a general rule, a per cell rating of between 0-6 mΩ is as good as it gets. Between 7 and 12 mΩ is reasonable. 12 to 20 mΩ is where you start to see the signs of aging on a battery, and beyond 20mΩ per cell, you'll want to start thinking about retiring the battery pack."

To summarize the results,  my favourite packs to fly are infinity & adrenaline.  Both Infinity and Adrenaline packs have plenty of punch, the cells stay balanced and they are light.  I would say CNHL and BlackLabel performs about the same, both are good for the price you pay.  Dinogy Graphene packs deliver the most noticeable steady power, but they are also quite heavy.  It also looks like one of the 2 Dinogy packs that I got have a bad cell.  The one rotorev graphene is almost on it's way out, It performed well when it was new.  The multistar 1000mah lipo has the least amount of IR but has a bad cell and it's barely been used.

What I learned from all this is that paying more money does not equate to higher quality lipos.  One of the best performing lipos I've ever used are infinity graphenes. The only issue with the infinity graphene is that it came with "ST60" connectors which melted during flight!!  I had to change them to xt60.

On the 1300mah packs, I can barely get 1 1/2 mins of flight time.  I would recommend getting 1500mah packs for anyone planning to run new generation high power motors such as emax 2306, tmotor f40pro, BH R4 etc.

Fried something on my FC, can power via USB but not battery

First build here, no prior experiences with electronics and diy at this level.

I'm using OmnibusF4 pro with built in OSD + BEC. I've soldered FS-X6B transmitter and a Matek buzzer + LED to the FC and tested + configured with USB and betaflight. I'm using a Zippy compact S3, 25c 1300mah.

For power cable, I've wired battery+ to BAT+ pad, and battery- to GND pad on the FC.

When I plug in the battery for the first time, the LED on FC lighted up briefly and then died off and then there's some smoke, thou I didn't notice where exactly it is from, too busy removing the battery.

After this point, I can no longer power the FC directly from the battery. So I tried to wired my battery directly to Matek PDB-XT60, and wired power and ground from PDB to FC. Plug in battery, the PDB LED lighted up, but nothing from the FC.

When I plug in the USB to FC, it can power up the FC and the attached FS-X6B. And if my battery is plugged in, the voltage on betaflight shows 11v, if I unplug the battery the voltage in betaflight is 2.7v.

So question is, is there any thing I can do to power my FC with the battery? or do I need to buy a new FC?

External current sensor on F4 V5 flight controller??

Anyone here familiar with the F4 V5 PRO flight controller? (this one: https://www.banggood.com/F4-V5PRO-Flight...36342.html )

My question is how to connect an external current sensonr to the F4 V5 PRO? I have a Racerstar 4in1 30A ESC with integrated current sensor. I'd like to use the ESC current sensor instead of the FC (that way the FC board doesnt have to handle +120A of cutrent) Sadly, the FC does not have any current sensor input (unlike the F3s). I am using Betaflight, by the way.

Hi recently I have couple FC that died on me so decided to spend time to fix it and succeed.

If you have Sp racing F3 that do this

Here how to fix it.

First suspect was dead Gyro/Acc

I have replaced gyro with know working one but still was no go.

Then I have replaced transistor and boom it came back to life

transistor name MIC5219  or LG33

Replace as per attached done Happy flying !!!!!

Accucell 6 - max. charging @5.3A instead of 10A

$

hello,

so I have a question. I have the following setup to charge my lipos: Accucell 6 (80W/10A) charger (here is the HK link), a 6 way balance board and a power supply that can output 10a (just bought a new one which can also output 16A just for the problem that I am writing here about --> see also attached pic for the new setup with the same problem). I want to charge my 6x 1.550mah Tattu lipos at the same time:

6x1550mah = 9.3A --> which I set up the charger to balance charge my Lipos.

what I notice is that the charger is just indicating that it is charging only around 5.0-5.3A. and a full charge for the 6 lipos takes me almost 2h. Now the idea of the balance board was to only charge them all at around 1h and I thought that with a max output of this charger of 10A I am safe.

Can any one explain me where mistake is and why it is only charging at max. 5.3A if it can possible could go up to 10A? Is it the balance board? is there some kind of protection inside? what did I miss?

thank you very much in advance for some helpful comments.

3s vs 4s battery

Hey guys,

I´m flying with a 215mm frame using 30a 4x1 ESC and Racerstar 2205-2600kv motors with 3s batteries.

I would like to buy a 4s to see the difference, and I have few  questions:

1 - Is there any setting required other than the battery settings for the alarm on Cleanflight ?
2 - What should I expect in terms of performance ? is this a huge difference ?
3 - Any hardware change required for this ?

Thanks

Hi all. I currently have an FS ONE, Hanger 9 joystick controller for helicopters along with the software. It was good in its day but am wanting to run full version of FPV Freerider. Does anyone know if the old FS ONE controller will be compatible or do I also need to buy new simulator controller. Smile

Drone for drone camp

Hello guys,

I got to opportunity to be a member of a drone camp where young people will learn to build and fly a drone in just one week.
Now i'm looking for a drone that is almost crash resisstant and easy to build. Because of the short time and big change that not every one can solder we would like to use (bullet) connectors to make it plug and play. I was thinking of the eachine wizzard this because of his 4 mm arm thickness and easy to change the arm if one got broken. But i would like to build in some custom parts and not use the complete wizzard and I am curious about your opinion.

The shopping list:
Wizzard frame
BR2206 2200KV motors
RS30A Lite BB2 ESC
Kingkong 5040 5x4x3 props
F3 EVO Cleanflight Flight Controller for Multirotor Racing w/ 4G MicroSD
Led motor mount
Motor protector
Landing skid
Matek Systems PDB-XT60 W/ BEC 5V & 12V

iflight ipeaka 32bit ESCs - warning!

$

Heeeeya fellaaass,
your unlucky Mr.Magoo of FPV has stumbled once more into one of the numerous pitfalls this hobby has to offer ROFL Cry
I'd like to post a little noob-warning about the iflight ipeaka 32bit-ESCs:
I didn't know about this whole 32bit-story,
just thought *whoah! - DSHOT1200!,
and since I spontaneously didn't find any alternative and those ESCs looked neat, I ordered a couple despite the price..
..indeed, they cost pretty much the same as "the real deal", and the vendors don't indicate in any way that they're just unlicensed clones of the Airbot Wraith32, which, in turn, are just shipping the pre-orders at the moment.
Iflight (upon request) sends a pre-release version of the BLHeliSuite32, which is *sort of able to deal with the ESCs (only over USB interface). Betaflight 3.2 seems to have adapted the interface (towards non-communication with unregistered products, which is good..), though, and does not want to talk to them despite the enabled DSHOT1200 protocol. *my bad..
I've been writing back and forth for a while and trying all sorts of settings over an Arduino programmer, but no way to get the ImpulseRC F3 FC to talk to the ipeaka 32bit 35A ESCs.
Same for the 50A 32bit ESCs which I intended using on my 7inch Helix build (..which has crashed onto concrete on its maiden due to signal interference with some buggy guys who turned up all of a sudden..) - waiting for a new set of arms, *ouch..
In the meantime I had started another 6inch build, which is stalling because of the ESCs. *frustrating..
My actual favorite is the 6inch Kraken from BoltRC with F80/2200 KV motors, run with 6 x 4.5 BN biprops from HQ. Will be posting footage as soon as I find the time.. The Kraken is run by a 4-in1 35A Cicada ESC and - due to space - only a 1000 microF capacitor on the main power line (Omnibus F4 from Readytoflyquads). This setup works beautifully!

However, once again:
Listen to experienced guys like Unseen and run through their posts, their statements are golden, and I wish I had considered them earlier. Well, upon stumbling we learn..
Don't buy those ESCs, I am trying to have mine replaced right now,
unless you're dead-proficient in C programming and have a ton of time to waste..
Keep it up, everyone, and enjoy flying!
Stick to what works, for now, let's give this 32bit-story some time - at least, that's what I will do, following Unseen's word of wisdom..

Improve Flying

What things have you all done to dramatically improve your flying?

For me, probably the number one thing I did was I got more batteries and get in a lot of flight time.  When I first started out, I would fly my one battery, charge it for an hour then fly again.  I have a big enough yard to fly at my house without having to go anywhere.  When I bumped up to 4 batteries, I found that I could get enough flight time in at one time to start making really noticeable improvements.

The second thing I did that really helped me out was putting in a bunch of hours on a flight simulator but it really doesn't compare to the real thing.  So now I feel like I'm at a bit of a plateau.  I have a good handle on the basics but I want to get to the next level so I figured I would see what others are doing in their journey.

Drifting

I've been building a 250 quad for the last few weeks, which is a lot of fun. However, when I'm trying to fly it, it doesn't seem to fly as it should. When I just raise the throttle, it takes off, but not in a clean vertical way. It seems to drift, mostly to the right and the back. To my understanding, when I just use the throttle, it should take off in a perfectly vertical way?

It's a 250 quad, with an SP Racing F3 flight controller. I've balanced the props, and calibrated the ESC's and the accelerometer of the FC.

What am I doing wrong? What could be a solution?

Charge FatShark Battery

I just got some FatShark Dom V3's  Big Grin  I knew this was going to happen!! Had to have them.

My question is how do I charge the battery.  I have a venom charger that only balance charges so that won't work.  I also have a SkyRC E4 charger but it doesn't seem to work either.  It has the banana plugs but it seems to want the balance lead plugged in to do the charging.

Any ideas?

250mm Tuning

So, as I stated in welcome section I built my first quad which is the ZMR250; I have been trying to get it more "locked-in" feeling so I can advance my skills in Acro/Rate mode. I was getting alot of sway and altitude change while trying to get it to hover; Today I tried some new props, and this log will be with some 6045 props... I really liked the way it flew with these versus the Gemfan 5030 I had on originally. I also tried some 5040 3 blade HQ props before these, but the log isn't uploaded yet. If you see anything that stands out to you, just let me know.. I may be missing something diagnostic wise that I need to work on. Gonna use this thread kind of like a timeline, as I learn more I will update my PIDs here or what I have found to help out others in the same situation. I am using BlackBox to log/attempt tuning.

Lizard 95 is no ground dweller!

So I ordered an Eachine Lizard 95, FrSky version and it arrived today...too excited!!!  Anyway, I placed the battery (550mah, 3s) on the charger (11.66 volts out of the box according to my charger) and made it whole.  12.65 is topped off.

Bound it to my Taranis Q7x without any issue.  Shut everything down and cabled it to Betaflight, version 3.1.0.  Set the unit up Stock PIDs and a switch for arming set, it was time to test motors and such.  Removed the propellers when I first took it out of the box (it comes with two sets) and armed it for the first time.  Cool leds in the back create kind of a Christmasy feel!  Everything seemed to work so propellers went back on and tested it with a hover.  This unit is truly a little monster and the various videos around the interweb barely give it justice!

Anyway, this should certainly keep me busy as I work on the one I am building.

I have a second one coming in a few days, same as the one that arrived today due to a mixup in ordering if anyone is interested in purchasing one.  FrSKY version, it is NIB.  Paid $126 for it.  Would like to get what I paid for the 'spare one'.

This is after sending it around the yard and feeling completely out of control flying!  Fast and super quick.  It is going to take some getting used to.

The fun zone!

Here is the Lizard next to my E010s.
