Finally completed my first build after about a 2-year hiatus!  This is the Toothpick 3 from FPVCycle.com (by KababFPV). It is shown here with my new radio and my new goggles!

Jumping to the end of the build, here are the final weights (dry and with 2S 450mAh lipo).

I've only hovered it indoors so far, but it does actually fly! (And plenty snappy on 2S!)  Actual details of the build to follow...

More drone hyperbole

So the article says there were so many drones in the air, the airspace had to be closed.  Like it wasn't already closed due to the crash.  Then later in the article it was said the actual number of drones in the area is unclear (which I read as none).

If there were THAT many drones there we would see some pictures and/or video, and some sort of a count estimate.

Also, if so many drones were there with all the other aircraft and not one collision occurred with a drone and aircraft, how dangerous can drones be?

It's this kind of propaganda we are working against too, not just the draconians laws from the Feds.

Beeper sounds like a broken robot

It’s winter here in Seattle and I’ve been indoors in the rain finishing my new build. Got everything together and tested it flys and has been conformal coated. I’m wary of losing my drone in the trees as well as tall grass so I installed the vifly 2.0 powered beeper. Pretty sure everything is wired correctly. I’m using the bardwell f4 flight controller if that matters. I charged the little lipo on the buzzer for many hours before installing it into the craft. Whenever it turns on it makes horrible Sounds like in the video. The beeper triggers when I flip the aux switch but still makes that sound. When I unplug the lipo the vifly beeper acts like normal. I don’t really know how to try to fix this. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Radio Transmitter

Hi guys
this is a simple one, I'm currently using a Flysky fs-i6x and no complaints it does the work for the price perhaps some latency from time to time, not a big deal but now I want something a little bit better and with more range so what you guys think I should get between the FrSky Taranis Q X7 2.4GHz 16CH Transmitter or the FrSky Taranis X9 Lite ACCESS 2.4G 24CH Radio Transmitter. I don't really know what to look for in a radio transmitter and what the differences are between these two.

Sorry, all I have is this image I grabbed from a Facebook post.  Hopefully it is still somewhat readable.

So that means the deadline will stay at March 2nd.  If you are looking for help with your comment, check out this short suggestion guide for commenting from the FPV Freedom Coalition. https://fpvfc.org/remote-id-comment-submission-guide

Quad doesnt like Dshot

Recently completed a new 5"quad.
Kakute F7 stack with Tekko 40amp 4-in-1 ESC,

Running it on INV 2.3.2
and the latest Kakute F7 update
and I chose a 'Preset' to make things easy. In the Preset Inav chose MultiShot.

Flew it about 6-8 times just cruising along watching how it flys on Multi-Shot. All went well until today

I watched an INAV vid with Pawel (one of the INAV developers) recorded in NOV or DEC and he stated that it would
be fine to use DShot 1200 on INAV.
I wanted ESC telemetry so I switched it over to DShot1200.
I went back out to do some flying to get my 'heading' set correctly in GPS.  Thankfully I was still just cruising and only about 6' off the ground because the
quad did a left roll and hit the dirt.
So I thought well maybe 1200 is a bit to much so I chose Dshot 600...same results, Dshot 150...same results...
By the way it always seemed do a left roll and it would fly for about 1 to 1.5 minutes before takin' a dive.
I slowed down the video and motors 2 & 4 seemed to still be spinning when it hit and there were no warning
message(s) on the OSD.

Went back to Mulitshot and the quads flies fine.

Anyone experience this? Or have an answer as to why?    INAV gives a warning when you choose DShot 600 or 1200.
I would really like to get the amperage reading in the OSD but ....

Thanks
Roger

Motors Won't Spin - Jitter Back and Forth

$

Hi,

Having a weird issue I haven't encountered before - see this video:
.

When I arm the quad or test motors in blheli / betaflight, I can usually only get two or three of the motors to spin nicely, the other one or two just jitter back and forth no matter the throttle input. It's not always the same motor, but it does mostly to seem to be the two on the right side. Also when I spin the motors with no props, they all spin nice and smoothly. I've tried Dshot300, 600, Oneshot 125, PWM, as well as 24khz PWM loop and +/-4 degree motor timing. Nothing seems to make a difference. I did once get it to hover when all 4 motors happened to be spinning, but I can't reproduce that.

Here's my setup:
Holybro Kakute F7 Mini running BF4.1.2
Holybro Tekko F3 Mini 45amp 4-in-1 ESC
Tmotor F10 7500kv motors

Dump, and a photo of my blheli setup is attached. Any ideas? Do I have a bad ESC?

Wiring r-xsr to tyro 79 flight control

$

Hi everyone!

I’m working on my first ever build. I’m using the parts from the tyro 79 and installing them on the reptile cloud 149hd frame.
I have a question about connecting my frsky r-xsr receiver. Since the harness connections that came with the receiver don’t match the connection on the flight controller, can I just pop the pins and pull the wires from the black receiver connector and reinsert them into the white connector that came with the tyro kit? Or how would I go about connecting the r-xsr? I have no idea what I’m doing!
(Hope that makes sense, I included a photo to give you an idea of where I’m at. Thanks for any help!)

Tinyhawk 2 Replacement Motor Availability

Hello, burnt up one of the motors on my Tinyhawk 2 and having a hard time finding the correct replacement motor. Should be 0802 16KV but could not find anything that matches exactly. I realize this is a newer product so parts availability hasn't caught up yet but was hoping there might be a quicker solution than just waiting for them to show up on getfpv.com   Thanks in advance

Charger power supply

I am trying to get a home charging setup going but have a question. I only run 1s lihv whoop batteries and currently have 1 ulta power Up-S6 that I use. What I want to do is get another and run both off of one power supply. I have found this one ToolKitRC Power supply and would like to "Y" the xt60 connector and run 2 of the UP-S6 chargers of of it. This wold let me charge 12 batteries at one time and cut the charging time by a ton. My concern is the charger has  an input voltage of 9-15 volts and the power supply has an output voltage of 19 volts. I do not know if the extra 4 volts will turn the chargers into a pile of ash.

Thanks for the assistance.

2nd quad, tons of time invested, but I'm hittin a wall figuring this out

I'm the type that does a mountain of research, reading, investigation, etc.  Understanding the entire system is what leads to success, troubleshooting, etc.  The issue I'm starting to face is just an issue of time and energy, to the point I may have to put it aside, and I really had video goals I wanted to reach with this tool.

So, my basic build info is:

Xrotor Omnibus F4 G2 FC
Xrotor 45a 4 in 1 ESC
(as a stack, so that wiring is easy)

TBS Crossfire nano
TBS unify 5g8 HV

Runcam Swift Mini 2 JohnnyFPV Edition

I've flown the drone several times and it flies very well.  I wired the crossfire direct to the FC for all four wires an Rx1, Tx1, pwr and gnd.

I wired the Unify direct to batt voltage at main ESC connections (I have a large cap soldered in fyi), then I have green audio wire to tx6, then vid, power and grnd to vid out on FC.

Runcam is wired to FC power, grnd, vid in, only.

FC updated to 4.1+, betaflight 10.6.0.

I have seen methods of wiring the Unify through the crossfire to open uarts, but I tried to keep it simple.

So, now the issues I have:

In the goggles I see runcam and 10.0v lower on the screen, like the OSD from the camera showing and not receiving data (didn't intend for it to show though, as not wired that way).  The OSD from the FC works and I see batt voltage, cell voltage, etc in the goggles, BUT I haven't been able to get any rssi, LQ, and I can't control the vtx through smartaudio.

In betaflight, I shut off rssi, deselected what's necessary and rssi/lq is supposed to work in 4.0+ betaflight...nothing.  In betaflight configuration 0% rssi.  I went in blackbox, selected smartaudio, unchecked all but debug and no response for smart audio version showing....so smart audio is not working for sure.

I definitely want to run lq, and control the vtx because dropping video has led to two crashes thus far and I'm not happy about it.  Being able to see the channel, band, and output for sure, is much needed.

Once I get this working properly, I'm finishing by adding the TBS GPS and using some return to home features, but haven't added that until the core is working like I need it to.

Let me know what I need to show...dump file, high res pics, etc...I can provide it and will prob post it ahead anyway, as more info the better.

Updates so far:
Smart audio working. 5g8 HV wiring was wrong. Had Audio wire and SmartAudio wire mixed up. White wire to TX3 fixed that issue. Post #17

Runcam showing voltage, timer, and other things on screen I didn't want fixed. Post #18. Use joystick, press and hold up, goes to another menu which allows "off" for those options. All gone.

Still need RSSI problems solved, then I'm good.

frsky x9lite/R9MM Binding/Stick input

Hey all,
This post is a some what continuation from here (https://intofpv.com/t-r9mm-fport-problem...h-no-stick), where I had similar issues.  In an effort to not take over the thread per my information I have made a new post here.
As the title says.  I am having an issue with no stick input in betaflight however my receiver and transmitter are bound as far as i can tell (green light is on).  I have made mutiple attempts to correct the issue based on the information ive found digging through these forums (set serialrx_halfduplex, serialrx_inverted, as well as serialrx_provider = fport) all to no avail.  I would like to think its a simple CLI issue, but really am outta my league when it comes to that.  I have attached an image of how I have my R9MM-ota wired to my t-motor f7 fc.  Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated, I have been trying to get this thing up in the air since 1st of November.

Im running an x9lite, with r9m pro lite, and r9mm OTA receiver.

Just do not need her anymore. Only issue is a broken switch, but I have one and am including it. It has the 5dbi antenna mod done, painted case(chipped up), large speaker mod, and kickstand. Everything works fine on it, and functions as new. Just enjoying my NV14 too much. Will come with the module cover and charger. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to answer. Thanks!

First pack -burned- while attempting to parallel charging

$

So this happened today and i consider myself careful about parallel charging.
I was trying to fit 5 battery packs into the parallel charging board, and i think that i've twisted the balance lead more than the usual and it got loose, causing a tiny fire that result in a balance plug burned. Can this pack be rescued or it's better to not take the risk and dispose it?

For instance, all the batteries that were connected are OK and charging right now. The charger it's working as usual and the parallel board is working with no damages or burn signals.
Here are some pictures of the casualty

Ask me 3D CAD Questions

Hey Guys!

With 3D printing (amongst other uses for CAD) on the rise as for discussion points here on IntoFPV I thought I would start a sort of AMA for any questions people have about CAD.

I'm relatively experienced in 3D CAD with it being an accessory to my profession, I also have about 10 years experience now in Direct 3D CAD modelling.

I'm sure there are a few other people on here that can jump in and help out as well, but I just wanted to make a place for people to ask any questions or get help with something they may be struggling on. Even if you have an idea but don't know how to bring it to life in CAD I might be able to guide you to the tools you can use to help you out Smile

Post copies of your letters to the FAA here

I was thinking we might want to have a place to share our letters to the FAA.  Hopefully everyone here from the US will make an effort to write the FAA.  If you aren't interested in sharing your letter, no pressure.  But we all may get ideas for others that may help the cause.  So post them up if you are so inclined.  Just a little over a month until the deadline is here.

I would think intoFPV members would be a leading force to try to save the hobby.

A new transmitter for the.ronin :D - BetaFPV "Mini"

BetaFPV are about to release a new mini transmitter. Unlike their previous "toy grade" radios, this one has real gimbals. Not many details yet but it also has a micro USB port for using with simulators plus a trainer port, removable batteries (not sure what type), and it's been described as being compatible with OpenTX.

When I saw the following picture of it, I immediately thought of Ronin Big Grin Tongue

Hello forum friends,

I appreciate what you all stand for. I've played in simulators for a little bit and I'm ready to get my hands dirty. Ya'll have taught me not to go get a 6s drone, so I'm looking into a micro/tiny whoop.

  1. For $250 or less, what would you recommend
  2. I have a taranis Qx7 currently
  3. I'm considering a tinyhawk 2, mobulus 7, trashcan - if there are others I should look into please comment
  4. I want to practice/learn acro mode in real space, I plan to fly inside 25% of the time, and outside about 75%
  5. cinematography and fun flying are my end goals --- I love the acro scenic videos --hope I get there in the next year or two

Thank you for your help !! All these comparison videos on youtube have me confused as to what most would recommend
